Beijings high air pollution

Beijing's high air pollution

On January 13th Beijing experienced the awful effects of their pollution. The air quality was recorded over a 24 hour period. Out of those 24 hours 18 of them recorded results that were off the index. A safe normal level is considered to be only 25 micrograms per cubic meter. Beijing had surpassed 700 micrograms per cubic meter. All though the EPA advised everybody to stay inside there were quite a few who ventured out. The air quality they're receiving started on Thursday and is said to linger until Tuesday.

Opinion/reflection
It's insane that people would even go out in that kind of air. I believe that the whole world needs to either help china find a way to pollute less or not allow them to pollute as much. Eventually it's going to effect the whole world.

This picture shows just how bad the air pollution was 20 hours ago from now.

Questions:
1. What do you think other countries should do to try and prevent this from happening again?
2. Would you go out in that bad of air quality?
3. How should china cut down on the amount of air pollution they produce?

  1. What do you think other countries should do to try and prevent this from happening again? I don't know if other countries really can do much to help them except cutting down on the pollution like the burning of coal and fossil fuels.

Would you go out in that bad of air quality? There would be no way I would ever go out in that bad of air quality it would just be dumb because the air is 28 times as bad as it should normally be and it would obviously have very harmful effects to my lungs and body.

How should china cut down on the amount of air pollution they produce? China is one of the highest industry manufacturers which means burning coal and fossil fuels, so they should cut down on that.

  2. 1. What do you think other countries should do to try and prevent this from happening again? The main thing I believe other countries can do is cut down their pollution. We can't physically reduce China's pollution, but we can cut down and help the environment that way.
    2. Would you go out in that bad of air quality? No I wouldn't because it is extremely harmful to your health. There is nothing worth going out in those kinds of conditions.
    3. How should china cut down on the amount of air pollution they produce? They should make an effort to be more green. Although they have a lot of industry, little changes here and there can make a big difference.

  3. 1.)What do you think other countries should do to try and prevent this from happening again? I think other countries should put laws in place that state that only a a certain amount of pollution can be produced otherwise the company will be fined. The most obvious way to prevent this is producing less pollution. Big cities such as Beijing could definitely use more fuel efficient cars or find some way of alternative energy for their people. L.A. could definitely use some of these tips because it has allot pollution like Beijing.

2.)Would you go out in that bad of air quality? I personally would not go out in that bad air quality because that could be very bad for your lungs and could lead to respiratory problems in the long run. I would defiantly not go out on a day like that where the pollution level set record high scores. That could kill people with asthma and other breathing conditions.

3.)How should china cut down on the amount of air pollution they produce? I think China should cut down on the amount of pollution they produce by using more fuel efficient electronics and cars. also like i said before they could find more healthy ways of producing electricity. I learned in Global Studies class that China is producing the 3 Gorges Dam which uses hydro electricity to produce some clean energy. So that is one way of how China is helping clean up its act. But in the long run that will not be enough.
